Commissioner Peirce to Lead SEC Crypto Task Force
Acting Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Mark Uyeda announced the formation of a crypto task force that is “dedicated to developing a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for crypto assets.” Leading the effort will be SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce and several senior members of the SEC staff including: Richard Gabbert, Senior Advisor to the Acting Chairman, and Taylor Asher, Senior Policy Advisor to the Acting Chairman. According to an SEC press release, the Task Force will help “draw clear regulatory lines, provide realistic paths to registration, craft sensible disclosure frameworks, and deploy enforcement resources judiciously.” The task force will provide technical assistance to Members of Congress, coordinate with federal departments and agencies (including the CFTC), as well as state and international regulatory bodies. In a statement, Commissioner Peirce noted input from stakeholders, investors, and other interested parties will be crucial to ensure a regulatory framework protects investors while also fostering innovation.
