Mark Uyeda Designated as Acting Chair of SEC

On Tuesday, January 21 President Donald J. Trump designated Mark Uyeda as Acting Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. This announcement comes as former SEC Chair Gary Gensler stepped down from the agency on January 20. Acting Chairman Uyeda was first sworn into office as a Commissioner in June 2022, then re-nominated to serve a full five-year term ending in 2028. Prior to his service as Acting Chair and Commissioner, he served as Senior Advisor to Chairman Jay Clayton, Counsel to Commissioners Michael Piwowar and Paul Atkins, and Assistant Director and Senior Special Counsel in the Division of Investment Management. While SEC Chair nominee Paul Atkins is expected to have a confirmation hearing in the next few weeks, he may not enter the building as Chair until March or April.
