100 Black Voices Releases Findings from Recent Video Interviews
100 Black Voices, a collection of interviews from diverse directors, released findings from recent interviews detailing how boards can better incorporate DEI objectives into their governance policies and procedures. During this process, the author Barry Lawson Williams, found that persistence, collaboration, and an enhanced focus on incorporating diversity into boards provides the best outcome. Many of the individuals interviewed noted the headwinds in the DEI space but offered suggestions to manage those in the short- and long-term, which includes ensuring the pipeline of exceptional diverse candidates continues to grow and noting that boards should also recruit beyond traditional backgrounds. The interviewees also noted that “sitting directors must be vocal about the business case for diversity and tie it to shareholder value.” The findings offer insights on board rotation, actions for corporate entities, how search firms can help, and what social opportunities are key, among other suggestions.
