CFTC Hires Cost Benefit Analysis Staff

 

At a recent open meeting of the CFTC, CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler announced that a staffer from the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs was going to assist the CFTC staff with the cost benefit analysis for the joint rule SEC/CFTC rule regarding the definition of “swap.”  In his remarks, Chairman Gensler stated:

In considering the costs and benefits of financial reform, I believe the Commission should take into account the overall benefits to the American public and market participants of increased transparency, lower risk and help to protect against another crisis.
