SEC Chair Mary Jo White to Headline MFDF Policy Conference

SEC Chair Mary Jo White will give keynote remarks at the Forum’s Policy Conference on March 29 in Washington, DC.

In addition to Chair White, Vanessa Countryman, Chief Counsel of the SEC’s Division of Economic and Risk Analysis, will discuss her Division’s enhanced role in SEC rulemakings.

Panels at the Forum’s Annual Policy Conference will explore recent proposals by the SEC that, if adopted, would have a profound impact on fund operations.

  • Mutual Fund Liquidity.  The panel will discuss current liquidity practices as well as challenges and alternatives to the SEC’s proposal on fund liquidity.
  • Fund Use of Derivatives.  Panelists will explore how the SEC’s proposal may impact the fund industry, and how the proposal would change the fund board’s responsibilities.

In light of these sweeping SEC proposals, panels will then address how such changes could fundamentally alter the traditional role of the fund board.

  • Recent SEC Division of Investment Management Initiatives and Fund Directors.  This panel will feature an interactive discussion between David Grim, the Director of the Division of Investment Management, and fund independent directors on how the Division’s recent initiatives will impact fund boards.
  • The Evolving Role of the Fund Director. This panel will explore how boards are likely to adapt to meet future challenges as the SEC and others risk pushing boards beyond more traditional conceptions of oversight, fiduciary duty and business judgment.

The Policy Conference will also feature breakout sessions designed to allow attendees to engage in interactive discussions regarding the following topics:

  • Board oversight of intermediary fees
  • The Board/CCO relationship
  • Fostering an effective fund board.

The Policy Conference will take place on March 29 and 30 in Washington, DC.  Click here for more information or to register.
