On September 9, Eileen Rominger spoke at the Oversight of Derivatives Roundtable, co-hosted by the Mutual Fund Directors Forum and The Center for Financial Policy at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Ms. Rominger discussed the recently issued SEC concept release on derivatives and encouraged fund directors to submit comments. She stressed that fund directors "may be among the best positioned to see 'the forest' when it comes to funds' use of derivatives" because of their oversight role, including overseeing funds' use of derivatives. She also noted that the Mutual Fund Directors Forum's report, "Risk Principles for Fund Directors," issued in April 2010, appropriately reflects the SEC's approach to director oversight of derivatives.
