Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have made it easier than ever to stay in touch, share knowledge, make new connections, and find old acquaintances and long lost friends. Given the busy schedules and varied backgrounds of fund directors, it is no wonder the director community has embraced social media to help them stay abreast of news and business, and stay in touch with family and friends. Given the Forum's member-driven focus, tools like Facebook and Twitter are a natural fit for communicating with members, and allowing members to communicate and share ideas amongst themselves.
While some fund directors still prefer email, or even postal mail, many have found that social media platforms better suit the fast pace of their lives. Twitter provides the opportunity to opt-in to access an instantaneous and continuous feed of short messages, with the added benefit of being able to remain relatively anonymous. Facebook, though less anonymous, is an excellent medium for making connections and engaging in conversations. Though no technology can capture all the nuances of an in-person meeting, the Forum has embraced social media to make it easier for the Forum's staff to communicate with members, and members to communicate with each other between those all-important in-person events.
