Commissioner Casey Leaves the SEC

The SEC has announced that Commissioner Kathleen L. Casey retired from her post as SEC Commissioner on August 5, having completed her five-year term on June 5 of this year. As we noted in our June 3, 2011 post, President Obama has nominated Daniel M. Gallagher, Jr., a partner at WilmerHale, as Casey's replacement.   Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Gallagher was a Deputy Director of the Division of Trading and Markets at the SEC, and served as co-acting director of the Division from April 2009 to January 2010.  He was also counsel to former SEC Commissioner Paul S. Atkins and later as a counsel to former SEC Chairman Christopher Cox.

Mr. Gallagher's nomination is subject to approval by the Senate.
